This year, 2007, marks Tapissary’s 30th anniversary. To celebrate, I’ve been making adjustments to the grammar. The journal is my practice sheet where I merge linguistic invention with my daily experiences.

"Spoken" Tapissary comes in 2 flavors. "Tapisi" sounds like a French Slavic blend, while "Sevens" takes English vocabulary as its base. The celloglyphs (hieroglyphs) are written the same for both the Tapisi and Sevens styles. These two spoken forms can also be written with the Latin alphabet, as seen in the following entries. For the time being, I'm focusing on Sevens.

The formulae you see preceding each phrase below (such as: [≈] + V ) refer to the cyclic grammar.

Images and Vocabulary. I base these short Tapissed texts on images. The illustrated entries give me daily practice with language, drawing and/or photography. Each day I highlight a vocabulary word, showing how it fits into a sentence.

[=] /\+/\ This painting by Delaunay from 1913 caught my eye for the vivid color popping out of the tonal brown background. +| The description says his inspiration for the work was an airplane propeller. +| I chose it to practice color with my pencils, +| but also because I was tired and [≠] +| wanted something easy to draw. [=] +/\ On the contrary, this piece proved one of the most challenging to copy +/\ that I’ve attempted.

Note: The word gtûooye above is pronounced: gtoo-oh. Oye is the past tense of Eye. Gtûooye literally means: 'it got the eye'.

Another example of a hover verb from the text above: istrûmüü (pronounced ihs-troo-MUH) means 'it wanted me'. Müü is the past tense of Me. Under certain grammatical circumstances, Tapissary places the noun into the past tense, since the noun was that which existed in the past.

The past tense of nouns and verbs follow regular patterns, and often yield interesting results such as: a pile > a pole(past). a song > a saeng(past). sing > süng(past). a cable > a candable(past), etc...

[=] |+| This is my attempt at copying a painting by Puvis de Chavannes .+/\ It was a stimulating exercise to do, +∆ but accurate likenesses were essential in portrait painting of the nineteenth century. [≠] +/\ Perhaps the lady would have had me banished for this pencil drawing. [≠] +/\ I wonder where I would have ended up.

Thiwciis is my attempt at copying a painting by Puvis de Chavannes. Stimulating ûëëxercise moiit, but accurate lighkness theey were essential in portrait painting ytra nineteenth century. Perhaps would hilastaady banished for this pencil drawing. Wonder where would end up yshemestee.
